Frankly speaking, I am not a big fan of her. Not even a fan, to be precise. But I dont hate her. Nevertheless, I dont like people who love being manipulative. They can ruin other people's trust, they can ruin a friendship, they can even destroy a country.
The tsunami was on Friday, 11 March 2011 around 2pm. A few hours later, they reported that the nuclear power plant in Fukushima (one of the affected area) has losing its power supply. The US has sent emergency supplies of coolant to help. Click here and here for full chronological events of the disaster in Japan.
Based on the video, The First Lady was interviewed during "Walk for Children" event. This event was held on last Sunday (13th March 2011), 2 days after the tsunami. The theme for this event was "1Malaysia - Goes Green".
Therefore, there are two possibilities on why she made such statement
1. She was asked about the tsunami and earthquake in Japan
If she was referring to the earthquake and Japan, her comments were nonsense. Malaysia should be ashamed of her for making such comment. Japan has long prepared for such disaster. They have learned from history. Their buildings are strong, earthquake is nothing to them. With a magnitude of around 6, the buildings are just rocking. They built massive wall, 10 meters height and about 2 km long across Taro Village to stop tsunami from destroying the village. The wall was regarded as the most robust anti-tsunami accomplishment in the world. It was able to protect the village from Chilean tsunami in 1960. But, who can defy the power of God? The latest tsunami was more than 10 meters high, swept across the wall as it wasn't there.
2. She was asked about 'Go Green' and her view on nuclear power plant
If she was referring to the wrecked of Fukushima Nuclear plant, I kinda agree of what she said. Nuclear is one of energy source. However, the fear of it brings more harm than good, make a lot of countries in the worlds are not in favour of the prospect of the nuclear generators filling the globe.
In 1986, one of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant reactors exploded. The nuclear disaster at Chernobyl has been an environmental nightmare. Many people had died. A lot of people have suffered long term medical problems and the whole city has been deserted.
Current news on the nuclear crisis in Japan is that, radioactive iodine has been detected in Tokyo's tab water. Click here for full report. The current risk level is 5, 2 scale below the deadly Chernobyl disaster.
Therefore, I think we can judge the First Lady statement only if we knew the reporter's question. It is unfair for us to judge her based on this short clip. I am not trying to defend her as if she is my mother. But my point is, stop being manipulative, and stop believing in something blindly. Find out the truth before the 'lies' jeopardise any relationship and disturbing a country's peace.
